Draft 2 million men.  Congress should lay down conditions for Iran.  Congress and Bush should appoint negotiators led by a Democrat who should rent facilities in Geneva and negotiate for 6 months.

At the end of the 6 months, Congress will vote again to continue negotiations or authorize war.  Part of the vote should be a fact assessment of whether Iran is negotiating and acting in good faith.

If the vote is for war, it should be a ground invasion.  Iran should be asked to show every secret fatwa or legal ruling from the time of the hostage seize.  They should have to issue a fatwa that there is no fatwa justifying the hostage taking or calling the US the Great Satan, or that if one exists, it is null and void.

They also must issue a fatwa that the fatwa on Rushdie was a violation of Islam, and that the person who issued it was unIslamic and a false imam.

The imam in the Rushdie case was Ayatollah Khomeini, the first Supreme Leader of Iran.  Iran must issue a fatwa, approved by its highest courts, that Khomeini’s fatwa on Rushdie and calling the US the Great Satan, and the hostage episode were all unIslamic and that Khomeini was acting against Islam as a false imam in every one of them.
