Comments closed at Takimag.  Why?

Posted by Richard Spencer on December 23, 2008

Taki has decided to suspend indefinitely all commenting at Takimag. I’d like to thank those who’ve offered up thoughtful responses to our articles in the past.

So why did they stop the commenting?

Possible reasons to drop commenting?

  1. Comments were embarrassing.
  2. Because they were white nationalist.
  3. Because they were better.
  4. Because comments had data and links to data that Taki writers are too lazy to do.
  5. Taki writers grouse instead of do research and write about it.  This is similar or the same as David Frum’s criticism of paleocons.
  6. Takimag is a vanity production and comments took away from that.
  7. David Frum is coming with a new website and Takimag is afraid somehow of competing with it.  Comments can point to that if it does more than vanity writing.

Why was Christopher Roach dropped from Takimag even though he continues his own blog?

Takimag has not really been a strong defender or advocate of anything.  Its disorganized.  It does not try to build a body of knowledge.  The writers don’t have an excitement for learning and want to show what they learned.  There are exceptions.

The columns are not memorable themselves, although comment threads often were.  The columns tended to be weak tea in terms of solid information or data or links to them.  (Exceptions are Steve Sailer and maybe Buchanan, but these writers are not Taki discoveries.) They tended towards being what Frum said of the paleocons.

Unpatriotic Conservatives
A war against America.

Perhaps the most relentlessly solipsistic of the disgruntled paleos is Paul Gottfried, a professor at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania who has published an endless series of articles about his professional rebuffs.

Whether this is accurate or not, there is a tendency at Takimag to go in this direction.  The comments expose it.  After a column that grouses and bloviates, comments would come back based on data and with concise refutations.  This is what Takimag came to loathe about comments?  They proved the Frum critique was true and on target?

Entry: The End of Frum?

Post contents:
Its not the end of Frum, because Frum learns. Frum learns and tells us what he learns.  You can search on David Frum at  CIS is about learning data and models and then telling us what they learn.  So is Vdare.

National Review acts like the cool kids in high school. So does Fox.  Lou Dobbs goes out and creates a body of knowledge like Vdare, CIS, NumbersUSA, Front Page Mag, Jihad Watch and even Antiwar do.  Is Takimag going to learn and tell us what they learn or ride Taki’s money and vent resentments? If so, Frum will beat that because he is still learning.

Sent at: 2008 12 24

The comment still survives at the above link.

Are Taki’s authors riding Taki’s money?  Does Taki just want a vanity font?  Is it Rupert Murdoch he thinks about?  Is he too lazy to want to build a body of knowledge like Peter Brimelow is building at Vdare?  Or Lou Dobbs?  or Brussels Journal or Jihad Watch or Front Page Mag?  Is Take not just lazy, but intellectually lazy?

Its no longer possible to reach the archives from the Front Page.  Why?  Because it is not the intent to build a body of knowledge for reference?  Because Taki realizes that after over a year, his archives prove Frum’s critique is spot on for Taki’s own mag?  Takimag was instant decayed National Review?  Post Sobran and post Brimelow at the time of inception?

On February 5, 2007, journalist and socialite Taki Theodoracopulos launched Taki’s Top Drawer, (, a conservative online magazine.

For the past ten years at least, the conservative movement has been dominated by a bunch of pudgy, pasty-faced kids in bow-ties and blue blazers who spent their youths playing Risk in gothic dormitories, while sipping port and smoking their father’s stolen cigars. Thanks to the tragedy of September 11, and a compliant and dim-witted president, these kids got the chance to play Risk with real soldiers, with American soldiers. Patriotic men and women are dying over in Iraq for a war that was never in America’s interests. And now these spitball gunners, these chicken hawks, want to attack Iran, which is no threat to the U.S. at all.

The Risk plan would have been work the domino theory in our favor.  Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan in that order.  Eliminating their nuclear arsenal and capacity against us.

If Taki really thinks Iran should be allowed to build nukes, why hasn’t he taken that on in debate and shown why at Takimag?  If Taki thinks that sanctions would work, why not make that case?

Does Take support Muslim immigration to the West?  Does he support having an Iranian Muslim, Vahid Majidi, as head of WMD for the FBI?  Does he think its bigotry to be against that?  Does he even know it?  Too busy with vanity?

Was letting the Soviet Union have nukes the wise plan?  Was that keeping the Risk boys from finishing the job of WWII?  What does he think? What world do we live in? A random world where we are not supposed to be positive actors but just passive recipients of whatever happens?  So the Muslims can be positive actors who take control of history but we can’t?  Is that his vision?

Was one reason that the comments were closed the thread that made the case against Iran and Pakistan? “simon tregarth” “old atlantic”

The above comments had real debates.  Takimag couldn’t take the truth?  Couldn’t take real evidence?

The Wright Island Model proves that one way migration causes genetic replacement.  Those comments were removed a couple times including the reference to Genetics journal.  Why?  Because Takimag writers don’t read such journals or use them or anything else that takes work.  Over and over, Frum’s critique rings true about Takimag and its writers.  They are the dilletantes they condemn.

dominated by a bunch of pudgy, pasty-faced kids in bow-ties and blue blazers who spent their youths playing Risk in gothic dormitories, while sipping port and smoking their father’s stolen cigars.

Takimag removed this comment:

We investigated various cases of the island model with stochastic migration. If the population is infinite, the immigrants have a fixed gene frequency and the alleles are neutral, the gene frequency on the island converges to that of the immigrants.

Richard Spencer at Takimag deleted the following comment from a thread on the debate between John Sidney McCain III and Barack Hussein Obama II

Khomeini’s will declares the US the Enemy of Islam and the Great Satan. The Constitution of Iran effectively incorporates Khomeini’s Will as a binding fatwa. Iran has made America its enemy that it must destroy and is building nukes. We need to stop thinking this is a joke. They are working to kill us and mean to do so. We have to draft 2 million men and invade Iran. The Will and the Constitution are both on line in English. We can no longer afford a press that is worried about getting interviews and not our survival.

Someone had already posted this comment in reply to mine:

I can’t tell. Is Old Atlantic joking? How, prey tell, could Iran “destroy” America even if it wanted to?

Taki’s original purpose in starting Takimag:

dominated by a bunch of pudgy, pasty-faced kids in bow-ties and blue blazers who spent their youths playing Risk in gothic dormitories, while sipping port and smoking their father’s stolen cigars.

So it really comes down to this, Taki is for Iran and wants to cover up Khomeni’s Will and Iran’s Constitution.  He can’t take having his original purpose exposed as false in the face of Iran’s belligerence in its formal founding documents.  Some of Taki’s own articles:

But if a weak side like ours, led by a genius portly barrister and a ten-year-old boy can come so close to beating the great Goldsmith cricket machine, why can’t Europe stand up to the Islamist bullies?

Indeed how?

Now the neo-cons want Iran. It is up to us to stop them.

Article 107

After the demise of the eminent marji’ al-taqlid and great leader of the universal Islamic revolution, and founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatullah al-’Uzma Imam Khumayni – quddisa sirruh al-sharif – who was recognized and accepted as marji’ and Leader by a decisive majority of the people, the task of appointing the Leader shall be vested with the experts elected by the people.

Khomeini’s death is part of the Constitution. So his last will and testament is part of Islamic law that the Constitution makes binding on Iran.

Article 110 [Leadership Duties and Powers]

The constitution accords many powers to the Supreme Leader.

Some say that the Supreme Leader’s powers extend beyond those enumerated in the Constitution because he can use “Islamic issues for justification.”[10]

Khomeini’s Will

The USA is the foremost enemy of Islam. It is a terrorist state by nature that has set fire to everything everywhere and its ally, the international Zionism does not stop short of any crime to achieve its base and greedy desires, crimes that the tongue and pen are ashamed to utter or write.

Where is Taki’s research to back up his opinions?  What is it beyond name dropping and name calling?  Meanwhile Iran builds.   Iran teaches that the US is the foremost enemy of Islam and the Great Satan as Khomeini’s interpretation of Islam binding on Iran’s rulers and people alike.  If they have the chance to remove the Great Satan with nukes, don’t they have an obligation to do it even if they die doing so?  Isn’t that the moral thing to do?

Richard Spencer in a comment at another site says white nats were the reason.

  1. Richard Spencer on 23 Dec 2008 at 9:54 pm #

Well, I guess it’s kinda ironic that I’m leaving a comment (since I just banned them all at my site), but, yes, you’re right, the White Nats were the reason. Hopefully, we’ll be able to have good discussions of articles on The Sniper’s Tower.

Another comment on that thread:

…. as a White R-A-C-I-A-L-I-S-T, to call the few – and yes, it was few – not a very active board, sorry -actually, absent the WNs, not much of interest – i disgress…. to call the few WNs extreme is, well, rather, pathetic – I found it quite tame…. Unfortunately, Taki, while no doubt, a fine man, found it more useful to use the space as a vehicle to relay trivial tidbits…. Obviously, takimag, with its editor’s predispostion to all things harmlessly useless (how else could one define its brand of paulsian libertarianism) is more than willing to show up to the fight, unarmed….

However, they published Spengler’s demographic fallacies recently:

Spengler’s fallacy is that falling white birth rates in the West are cured by non-white immigration to fund social security for the last whites when they die off.  Actually, immigration itself displaces white births as shown by the baby boom during immigration restriction from 1940 to its peak in 1957 when immigration picked up again, before the pill was introduced a few years later.  See graphs of black and white fertility from 1800 to 1990 here:

Nor does white nats explain why they removed the Wright Island Model references or the references to Iran’s Constitution or Khomeini’s Will.  The latter contradict Taki’s original stated purpose.  Nor are they well known or understood even by neocons.

White nats don’t explain why Taki’s front page does not list his archives anymore and you have to use a search engine to get to them.  That seems an admission that he knows he hasn’t built a body of knowledge.  Which comes back to David Frum’s critique of paleocons being too close for Taki’s comfort, and he is afraid that his archives just prove it.  Most of all, he may think he is the one who ended up with frat boys who don’t do their homework.  That shows.  There is no body of knowledge being built at Takimag and this reflects Taki’s own name dropping view of the world.  He is the head frat boy and he sets the example of not doing assignments with diligence, learning new things and sharing that excitement with their readers.

Differences between A and C students, scroll down and see the table comparison A on the left and C on the right.

The A students are writing at Vdare and the C students at Takimag.  Just compare the two according to the table at the bottom of the above link.

Vdare has an archive to be proud of.  Organizations like SPLC fear it because they work hard and smart.  Taki has hidden his archive because he is ashamed of it.  It just shows that his C students have turned in grouses instead of research over and over again.

Iran’s Constitution and Khomeini’s Will and nuking US

November 15, 2008

Iran’s Constitution is in English on line as is Khomeini’s Will.

Search enemy and also Satan in above document.

NYT and US establishment think that K’s last will is a SNL sketch and can be ignored.  They are wrong.  Iran’s leaders don’t think they are funny characters on SNL.  They think they are the instrumentality of God’s will.

Iran names Khomeini alone in its Constitution. He and he alone is named as an interpreter of Islam in Iran’s Constitution.  Iran’s Constitution says Islam is supreme.  K’s will is effectively the highest interpretation of Islam according to Iran’s Constitution, following its trend.  Thus the US is the foremost enemy of Islam and is Satanic is the supreme law of Iran.  Moreover, its their duty to destroy Satan if they can, even if they die doing it.

==Some good comments at

Unfortunately, it discarded my comment automatically, probably because of too many links.

==Following is a rehash of above in more detail.

Iran’s constitution names Khomeini in its text. No other person is named in it. Iran’s Con names K as an interpreter of Islam. no other person is named as an int of Islam in Iran’s con. K is named as founding supreme ruler of Iran until he dies. That means K’s int of Islam is above anyone else’s. I’s con says Islam is supreme and this can’t be changed in I’s con. which means K’s int of Islam is supreme and can’t be changed by anyone.

That is why Iran said it couldn’t undo the fatwa on Rushdie after K died.

K names the US as the foremost enemy of Islam in K’s last will and testament. You just reverse the links, that means its part of Iran’s constution as the supreme law of Iran that the US is the foremost enemy of Islam and it can’t be changed.

This is not a sketch on Saturday Night Live. This is real. This is why they don’t want to meet with Obama with no preconditions. They have to destroy us and that is the supreme law of Iran and can’t be changed.

Great Satan is in K’s will. Its the supreme law of Iran and can’t be changed. They are morally obliged to kill Satan if they have the means even if they are destroyed doing it. Just like our rangers went up and died at Normandy, they have to eliminate us as the Great Satan if they have the chance, even if they are killed doing it.

This is not a joke. When our rangers died at Normandy they didn’t think it was a joke because Hitler was laughed at at other moments or called names. They thought they had to do it. Iran thinks they have to take us out and that its from God. This is real to them. This is why they behave the way they do. Stop thinking that their constitution and religion are a joke to them.

Fahd abuses the Quran, urges negligent people and nations to side with the superpowers.

Final Tirade Heard as Throngs Mourn Khomeini

Published: June 6, 1989

Tirade, Throngs, these are words to dismiss.

Khomeini’s will is the supreme law of Iran and makes it part of Iran’s constitution that the US is the foremost enemy of Islam.

The United States and moderate Arab leaders are ”terrorists” and ”pirates,” the Ayatollah declared in his last will and testament, read over the Teheran radio today.

”May God’s curse be upon them,” the Ayatollah said in his will. Eight Trampled to Death

So great was the crush to get close to the Ayatollah’s body – displayed in a refrigerated glass box – that at least eight people were trampled to death in a stampede, according to the state-run press agency, and more than 500 injured.

”Sorrow, sorrow is this day,” the huge throng chanted. ”Khomeini the idol-smasher is with God today.”

The NYT thinks this is a joke on SNL. Its real. Iran with nukes is not a joke or the same as Russia.

Islamic Republic War Fatwa Hypothesis Cont

October 3, 2007

Islam is a legal system. The Islamic Republic of Iran is based on Islamic law and rulings and decisions. No action of the government can be undertaken except that a prior written finding is made, a fatwa, that it is based on Islam and that it is a rightful purpose of an Islamic government.

Just as the US federal government derives its lawful powers from the Constitution, the Islamic Republic derives its from Islam. Just as the US govt requires laws, legal findings, case decisions, etc. to do anything, which trace to the US Constitution, so the Islamic Republic requires written findings that trace to Islam. The highest of these are fatwas issued by an Ayatollah. Ayatollah Khomeini was the founding Supreme Leader of Iran.

Ayatollah Khomeini fatwas have the same force as the founding legal documents of the US including Declaration of Independence. Khomeini had to issue a written fatwa for the decisions and negotiations over US hostages to be taken by the Islamic Republic’s government. He also had to issue one designating the US as the Great Satan. Khomeini fatwas can’t be revoked.

Thus it is a finding of the Islamic Republic as a founding document that the US is the Great Satan based on Islam. What this means is that the Islamic Republic is at war with the United States as long as it is the Great Satan. Because Khomeini designated it the Great Satan, that can’t be revoked except that the U.S. changed character, i.e. became an Islamic Republic.

Iran’s constitution makes Islam the supreme law of Iran. But what determines Islam are fatwas by Ayatollahs. The fatwas of the founding Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini are the highest irrevocable authority on what is Islam. Thus Khomeini’s finding that the U.S. is the Great Satan is the supreme law of the Islamic Republic of Iran and that designation can not be revoked, except that the U.S. became an Islamic Republic.

Article 4 is immutable and the Council of Guardians ensures that all articles of the Constitution as well other laws are based on Islamic criteria.

Article 5 (Office of Religious Leader)

This article explains the leaders of Ummah must choose a leader in accordance with Article 107 for this office. This is stated to be related to the disappearance of the Twelfth Imam whom it asks god to return.

From higher numbered articles:

Islamic laws & fatwas

Article 167 [Rule of Law for Judiciary] stipulates that judges must make use of “Islamic sources and…fatwas” in matters where the Iranian law books are silent.

No amendment that conflicts with the “Islamic character of the political system…and…the school [Twelver Ja’fari]” is permissible under any circumstances.

Thus we are at war with the Islamic Republic of Iran until it stops being an Islamic Republic or we become one. That war can’t be revoked by the Islamic Republic of Iran. This a fight to the death of one legal entity or the other according to them.

Did A’jad predict Armageddon at the UN?
By James Lewis

This will sound alarming. A literal reading of Ahmadi-Nejad’s UN address suggests that he is predicting a total war coming soon.

The key is in his invocation and his conclusion. Normal official communications by Muslims start with, “In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.” A’jad followed that formula immediately with:

“Oh God, hasten the arrival of Imam Al-Mahdi and grant him good health and victory and make us his followers and those who attend to his rightfulness.” [italics in the official Iranian version]

Sounds like a pretty standard invocation, but it’s not. It is a specific call for the Shiite Messiah, who will bring a final holy war, the final jihad, which in the Khomeini cult implies all-out war with the infidels to bring about the Millenarian Age of Paradise on Earth. (For Khomeini, the term “infidels” includes Sunni Muslims, who do not recognize the Mahdi). That is why Khomeini started the nuclear program twenty years ago, and why it has been pushed consistently by all the major cult leaders.

A’jad put the message explicitly in his peroration, i.e., his summary and conclusion.

“I officially declare that the age of relations arising from the Second World War as well as materialistic thought based on arrogance and domination is now over.” (italics added)

Translation: The West, and particularly the United States, emerged dominant after World War Two. Israel declared independence in 1948. The dominance of the West is now over.

Khomeini US Great Satan is Iran Founding Document

October 3, 2007

Grand Ayatollah Khomeini is the founding Supreme Leader of Iran, the first one in its history. His fatwas are the equivalent of the Declaration of Independence. He approved the designation of the US as the Great Satan. That is equivalent to the declaration of war in the Declaration of Independence, except that its required by Islam, and the US continues as Great Satan, and thus the war continues until the US is an Islamic Republic. This can’t be revoked any more than the US can revoke the Declaration of Independence.

Iran War Fatwa Hypothesis IWFH

September 30, 2007

Iran may have already prepared a secret finding, i.e. fatwa, that the Islamic Republic of Iran is at war with the United States and NATO. Iran doesn’t do anything without a ruling that it is Islamic, consistent with Islam to commanded by Islam. Iran is supplying arms to insurgents in Iraq. Thus Iran had to have prepared a finding that this was Islamic. Thus Iran has approved a finding that it is at war with the United States.

If Islam requires the Islamic Republic of Iran fight the U.S. in Iraq it would also command that the Islamic Republic fight the U.S. in Afghanistan. So the finding that Iran was at war with the U.S. in Iraq would also find that Iran was at war with the U.S. in Afghanistan.

If Islam requires the Islamic Republic to be at war with the U.S. in Afghanistan it also requires that it be at war with NATO, the military embodiment of Christendom as well. Thus Iran has prepared and approved a finding that the Islamic Republic of Iran is at war with the United States and NATO. This finding likely applies world wide, i.e. slay them where you can find them. But for tactical reasons they may limit operations to Iraq and Afghanistan for now.

We can apply to other incidents the principle that Iran doesn’t do anything without a legal finding that it is Islamic. After the students took the U.S. embassy in Nov 1979, Iran’s government subsequently took over the operation. It likely made a finding at that time that this was Islamic. From that time on, the government of Iran declared the U.S. the Great Satan. That phrase and the constant teaching of it in schools required a written finding.

This finding was likely made or approved by Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran from Dec 3, 1979 to June 4, 1989 . When Khomeini died, the Islamic Republic of Iran said it could not rescind the fatwa issued by Khomeini to kill Rushdie. That was a finding by Khomonei that Islam required Rushdie to be killed. The government of Iran said that this finding could not be reversed after Khomeini’s death.

Attempts to revoke the fatwa

On September 24, 1998, as a precondition to the restoration of diplomatic relations with Britain, the Iranian government, then headed by moderate Mohammad Khatami, gave a public commitment that it would it would “neither support nor hinder assassination operations on Rushdie.”[77][78] But the hardliners in Iran have continued to reaffirm the death sentence.[79] In early 2005, Khomeini’s fatwa was reaffirmed by Iran’s spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a message to Muslim pilgrims making the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.[80] Additionally, the Revolutionary Guards have declared that the death sentence on him is still valid.[81] Iran has rejected requests to withdraw the fatwa on the basis that only the person who issued it may withdraw it[80], with Ruhollah Khomeini having died in 1989.

A finding in 1979 or 1980 by Ayatollah Khomeini that Islam put the Islamic Republic of Iran at war with the United States, and that it designated the United States as the Great Satan, could also not be reversed after Ayatollah Khomeini’s death. Thus the Islamic Republic of Iran is at war with the United States and this war can’t be stopped. At most they can make a truce, but Islam prohibits the Islamic Republic making peace with the United States.

The designation of the United States as the Great Satan during Khomeini’s tenure as Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic would have required a fatwa issued or approved by Khomeini. This was taught to school children. Thus this fatwa too can not be revoked. Thus Iran can not make peace with the United States, NATO or the IAEA. They are tainted by the Great Satan.

To repeat the above argument, the Great Satan is not just a funny name. To teach it in schools and use it in parades in the 1980’s, and during the hostage situation at the U.S. embassy, the Islamic Republic had to issue a written finding that the U.S. was the Great Satan. This finding would have required the approval of Ayatollah Khomonei. This would be a finding that Islam made the U.S. the Great Satan. This could not be reversed after the death of Ayatollah Khomeini.

The following links make clear that a finding by Grand Ayatollah (marja) Khomeini as Supreme Leader of Iran can not be revoked. The identification of the United States as the Great Satan was likely a fatwa issued by Khomeini. That was a declaration of war and a finding that it was commanded by Islam. Thus the United States has been at war with the Islamic Republic and this war can not be stopped by any authority under the Islamic Republic.

The finding that the United States is the Great Satan and that the Islamic Republic is at war with it leads to the conclusion that this is the time of the return of the last Imam. This is why the President of Iran believes in that coming. This is the time for the climactic battle of good and evil. This is not just the view of the President of Iran, but a finding made by Grand Ayatollah (marja) Khomeini. It can not be reversed.

We call the above analysis the Iran War Fatwa Hypothesis (IFWH). It could also be called the Great Satan Fatwa Hypothesis (GSFH). The IFWH or GSFH if true imply that the U.S., NATO, and the West are in an irrevocable war with the Islamic Republic. This war is commanded by Islam. The U.S. is the Great Satan and this is the time of the final climactic battle of good and evil.

The U.S. can not continue to fight Iran in Afghanistan and give up its position in Iraq in these circumstances. Since Iran is at war with us, and has been since 1979, and this is an irrevocable war, we should not give up our position on both sides of Iran. Instead we have to draft 2 million men and invade Iran. There is now nothing more to talk about. This war must remove the Islamic Republic of Iran and substitute a non-religious government. The mullahs must be put in prison at Gitmo since there is no way for them to make peace with the United States, the Great Satan, ever. This applies to all the clerics in Iran. None of them can make peace with the Great Satan. Instead they are commanded to be martyrs in the fight with the Great Satan.

The President of Iran’s statements and evasions while on his trip to the United States are consistent with all of the above. Christiane Amanpour as part of CNN’s Special Investigative Unit, SIU, did a special, Ahmadinejad, Soldier of God, on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s trip to the United States and speech at Columbia University and the U.N. This special showed that Iranians are willing to be martyrs for Islam against the West.

Other articles on this trip: are at war with the Islamic Republic of Iran. We are on both sides of Iran now. That war can never be revoked by the Islamic Republic. No cleric in Iran can ever make peace, but must become a martyr against the United States. The same applies to all Shiites, including those in Iraq, and in Western lands.

President Ahmadinejad’s letter to President Bush, widely interpreted as a peaceful overture, is in fact a declaration of war. The key sentence in the letter is the closing salutation. In an eight-page text of the letter being circulated by the Council on Foreign Relations, it is left untranslated and rendered as “Vasalam Ala Man Ataba’al hoda.” What this means is “Peace only unto those who follow the true path.”

It is a phrase with historical significance in Islam, for, according to Islamic tradition, in year six of the Hejira – the late 620s – the prophet Mohammad sent letters to the Byzantine emperor and the Sassanid emperor telling them to convert to the true faith of Islam or be conquered. The letters included the same phrase that President Ahmadinejad used to conclude his letter to Mr. Bush. For Mohammad, the letters were a prelude to a Muslim offensive, a war launched for the purpose of imposing Islamic rule over infidels.

Much of the rest of Ahmadinejad’s letter is devoted to portraying Mr. Bush as an infidel. Given that Mr. Bush is not about to convert to Islam, what the letter presages is, if anything, an Islamic attack.

This is draft. The above is hypotheses or speculation. It is subject to revision.
