Comments closed at Takimag.  Why?

Posted by Richard Spencer on December 23, 2008

Taki has decided to suspend indefinitely all commenting at Takimag. I’d like to thank those who’ve offered up thoughtful responses to our articles in the past.

So why did they stop the commenting?

Possible reasons to drop commenting?

  1. Comments were embarrassing.
  2. Because they were white nationalist.
  3. Because they were better.
  4. Because comments had data and links to data that Taki writers are too lazy to do.
  5. Taki writers grouse instead of do research and write about it.  This is similar or the same as David Frum’s criticism of paleocons.
  6. Takimag is a vanity production and comments took away from that.
  7. David Frum is coming with a new website and Takimag is afraid somehow of competing with it.  Comments can point to that if it does more than vanity writing.

Why was Christopher Roach dropped from Takimag even though he continues his own blog?

Takimag has not really been a strong defender or advocate of anything.  Its disorganized.  It does not try to build a body of knowledge.  The writers don’t have an excitement for learning and want to show what they learned.  There are exceptions.

The columns are not memorable themselves, although comment threads often were.  The columns tended to be weak tea in terms of solid information or data or links to them.  (Exceptions are Steve Sailer and maybe Buchanan, but these writers are not Taki discoveries.) They tended towards being what Frum said of the paleocons.

Unpatriotic Conservatives
A war against America.

Perhaps the most relentlessly solipsistic of the disgruntled paleos is Paul Gottfried, a professor at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania who has published an endless series of articles about his professional rebuffs.

Whether this is accurate or not, there is a tendency at Takimag to go in this direction.  The comments expose it.  After a column that grouses and bloviates, comments would come back based on data and with concise refutations.  This is what Takimag came to loathe about comments?  They proved the Frum critique was true and on target?

Entry: The End of Frum?

Post contents:
Its not the end of Frum, because Frum learns. Frum learns and tells us what he learns.  You can search on David Frum at  CIS is about learning data and models and then telling us what they learn.  So is Vdare.

National Review acts like the cool kids in high school. So does Fox.  Lou Dobbs goes out and creates a body of knowledge like Vdare, CIS, NumbersUSA, Front Page Mag, Jihad Watch and even Antiwar do.  Is Takimag going to learn and tell us what they learn or ride Taki’s money and vent resentments? If so, Frum will beat that because he is still learning.

Sent at: 2008 12 24

The comment still survives at the above link.

Are Taki’s authors riding Taki’s money?  Does Taki just want a vanity font?  Is it Rupert Murdoch he thinks about?  Is he too lazy to want to build a body of knowledge like Peter Brimelow is building at Vdare?  Or Lou Dobbs?  or Brussels Journal or Jihad Watch or Front Page Mag?  Is Take not just lazy, but intellectually lazy?

Its no longer possible to reach the archives from the Front Page.  Why?  Because it is not the intent to build a body of knowledge for reference?  Because Taki realizes that after over a year, his archives prove Frum’s critique is spot on for Taki’s own mag?  Takimag was instant decayed National Review?  Post Sobran and post Brimelow at the time of inception?

On February 5, 2007, journalist and socialite Taki Theodoracopulos launched Taki’s Top Drawer, (, a conservative online magazine.

For the past ten years at least, the conservative movement has been dominated by a bunch of pudgy, pasty-faced kids in bow-ties and blue blazers who spent their youths playing Risk in gothic dormitories, while sipping port and smoking their father’s stolen cigars. Thanks to the tragedy of September 11, and a compliant and dim-witted president, these kids got the chance to play Risk with real soldiers, with American soldiers. Patriotic men and women are dying over in Iraq for a war that was never in America’s interests. And now these spitball gunners, these chicken hawks, want to attack Iran, which is no threat to the U.S. at all.

The Risk plan would have been work the domino theory in our favor.  Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan in that order.  Eliminating their nuclear arsenal and capacity against us.

If Taki really thinks Iran should be allowed to build nukes, why hasn’t he taken that on in debate and shown why at Takimag?  If Taki thinks that sanctions would work, why not make that case?

Does Take support Muslim immigration to the West?  Does he support having an Iranian Muslim, Vahid Majidi, as head of WMD for the FBI?  Does he think its bigotry to be against that?  Does he even know it?  Too busy with vanity?

Was letting the Soviet Union have nukes the wise plan?  Was that keeping the Risk boys from finishing the job of WWII?  What does he think? What world do we live in? A random world where we are not supposed to be positive actors but just passive recipients of whatever happens?  So the Muslims can be positive actors who take control of history but we can’t?  Is that his vision?

Was one reason that the comments were closed the thread that made the case against Iran and Pakistan? “simon tregarth” “old atlantic”

The above comments had real debates.  Takimag couldn’t take the truth?  Couldn’t take real evidence?

The Wright Island Model proves that one way migration causes genetic replacement.  Those comments were removed a couple times including the reference to Genetics journal.  Why?  Because Takimag writers don’t read such journals or use them or anything else that takes work.  Over and over, Frum’s critique rings true about Takimag and its writers.  They are the dilletantes they condemn.

dominated by a bunch of pudgy, pasty-faced kids in bow-ties and blue blazers who spent their youths playing Risk in gothic dormitories, while sipping port and smoking their father’s stolen cigars.

Takimag removed this comment:

We investigated various cases of the island model with stochastic migration. If the population is infinite, the immigrants have a fixed gene frequency and the alleles are neutral, the gene frequency on the island converges to that of the immigrants.

Richard Spencer at Takimag deleted the following comment from a thread on the debate between John Sidney McCain III and Barack Hussein Obama II

Khomeini’s will declares the US the Enemy of Islam and the Great Satan. The Constitution of Iran effectively incorporates Khomeini’s Will as a binding fatwa. Iran has made America its enemy that it must destroy and is building nukes. We need to stop thinking this is a joke. They are working to kill us and mean to do so. We have to draft 2 million men and invade Iran. The Will and the Constitution are both on line in English. We can no longer afford a press that is worried about getting interviews and not our survival.

Someone had already posted this comment in reply to mine:

I can’t tell. Is Old Atlantic joking? How, prey tell, could Iran “destroy” America even if it wanted to?

Taki’s original purpose in starting Takimag:

dominated by a bunch of pudgy, pasty-faced kids in bow-ties and blue blazers who spent their youths playing Risk in gothic dormitories, while sipping port and smoking their father’s stolen cigars.

So it really comes down to this, Taki is for Iran and wants to cover up Khomeni’s Will and Iran’s Constitution.  He can’t take having his original purpose exposed as false in the face of Iran’s belligerence in its formal founding documents.  Some of Taki’s own articles:

But if a weak side like ours, led by a genius portly barrister and a ten-year-old boy can come so close to beating the great Goldsmith cricket machine, why can’t Europe stand up to the Islamist bullies?

Indeed how?

Now the neo-cons want Iran. It is up to us to stop them.

Article 107

After the demise of the eminent marji’ al-taqlid and great leader of the universal Islamic revolution, and founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatullah al-’Uzma Imam Khumayni – quddisa sirruh al-sharif – who was recognized and accepted as marji’ and Leader by a decisive majority of the people, the task of appointing the Leader shall be vested with the experts elected by the people.

Khomeini’s death is part of the Constitution. So his last will and testament is part of Islamic law that the Constitution makes binding on Iran.

Article 110 [Leadership Duties and Powers]

The constitution accords many powers to the Supreme Leader.

Some say that the Supreme Leader’s powers extend beyond those enumerated in the Constitution because he can use “Islamic issues for justification.”[10]

Khomeini’s Will

The USA is the foremost enemy of Islam. It is a terrorist state by nature that has set fire to everything everywhere and its ally, the international Zionism does not stop short of any crime to achieve its base and greedy desires, crimes that the tongue and pen are ashamed to utter or write.

Where is Taki’s research to back up his opinions?  What is it beyond name dropping and name calling?  Meanwhile Iran builds.   Iran teaches that the US is the foremost enemy of Islam and the Great Satan as Khomeini’s interpretation of Islam binding on Iran’s rulers and people alike.  If they have the chance to remove the Great Satan with nukes, don’t they have an obligation to do it even if they die doing so?  Isn’t that the moral thing to do?

Richard Spencer in a comment at another site says white nats were the reason.

  1. Richard Spencer on 23 Dec 2008 at 9:54 pm #

Well, I guess it’s kinda ironic that I’m leaving a comment (since I just banned them all at my site), but, yes, you’re right, the White Nats were the reason. Hopefully, we’ll be able to have good discussions of articles on The Sniper’s Tower.

Another comment on that thread:

…. as a White R-A-C-I-A-L-I-S-T, to call the few – and yes, it was few – not a very active board, sorry -actually, absent the WNs, not much of interest – i disgress…. to call the few WNs extreme is, well, rather, pathetic – I found it quite tame…. Unfortunately, Taki, while no doubt, a fine man, found it more useful to use the space as a vehicle to relay trivial tidbits…. Obviously, takimag, with its editor’s predispostion to all things harmlessly useless (how else could one define its brand of paulsian libertarianism) is more than willing to show up to the fight, unarmed….

However, they published Spengler’s demographic fallacies recently:

Spengler’s fallacy is that falling white birth rates in the West are cured by non-white immigration to fund social security for the last whites when they die off.  Actually, immigration itself displaces white births as shown by the baby boom during immigration restriction from 1940 to its peak in 1957 when immigration picked up again, before the pill was introduced a few years later.  See graphs of black and white fertility from 1800 to 1990 here:

Nor does white nats explain why they removed the Wright Island Model references or the references to Iran’s Constitution or Khomeini’s Will.  The latter contradict Taki’s original stated purpose.  Nor are they well known or understood even by neocons.

White nats don’t explain why Taki’s front page does not list his archives anymore and you have to use a search engine to get to them.  That seems an admission that he knows he hasn’t built a body of knowledge.  Which comes back to David Frum’s critique of paleocons being too close for Taki’s comfort, and he is afraid that his archives just prove it.  Most of all, he may think he is the one who ended up with frat boys who don’t do their homework.  That shows.  There is no body of knowledge being built at Takimag and this reflects Taki’s own name dropping view of the world.  He is the head frat boy and he sets the example of not doing assignments with diligence, learning new things and sharing that excitement with their readers.

Differences between A and C students, scroll down and see the table comparison A on the left and C on the right.

The A students are writing at Vdare and the C students at Takimag.  Just compare the two according to the table at the bottom of the above link.

Vdare has an archive to be proud of.  Organizations like SPLC fear it because they work hard and smart.  Taki has hidden his archive because he is ashamed of it.  It just shows that his C students have turned in grouses instead of research over and over again.
